All About Mrs. Wise! :)

Welcome to 2nd Grade Class of 2027!
I am so excited about the 2016-2017 school year and the sweet new faces I'll see in second grade! I'm Mrs. Wise and I want you to know a little more about me before we are officially back to school. I was raised in Boiling Springs and have lived here since I was 3 years old, so I'm both proud and blessed to still call this place home. I grew up in District 2 schools and following graduation from BSHS, I attended USC-Upstate where I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. After my first year of teaching, I began working on attaining a Master's Degree in Education from Southern Wesleyan University and graduated in December 2006. This is going to be my thirteenth year of teaching, all of which have been at OES! I taught 3rd grade for ten wonderful years and this will be my third year in 2nd grade. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Rusty. We have been married for 13 years and have 2 beautiful daughters. Linley is our oldest. She is 5 years old, sassy, funny, shy, AND will be with me at OES this year in Kindergarten! Our youngest daughter, Vivienne (aka Vivi) just turned 1 in June. She keeps us on our toes because she is into everything and she's becoming even busier because she has just started taking her first steps. She loves books, Elmo, Mickey, her big sister, and making us laugh.

Besides my wonderful family, here are a few more things I love:
God, spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading books on my Kindle, Disney World, sushi, Moe's, Target, almond M&Ms, sweet tea, and the USC Gamecocks.
I can't wait to meet each of you and learn more about you! We're going to have a fun, memorable year together. Enjoy these last few days of summer and I'll see you soon!

First Annual 2nd Grade Market

Success! That wraps up our Goods & Services PBL unit in one word. We covered a lot throughout the unit: goods, services, resources, consumers, money, supply & demand and so many other topics that came up along the way. The students used resources donated by our classmates' wonderful parents to create their own good or service they wanted to sell to the students and faculty of OES. We learned about persuasion before creating advertisements to promote their product. Then, on March 31, we held our first OES 2nd grade Market. The 2nd graders sold a variety of goods such as paper airplanes, duct tape jewelry, loom bracelets, bookmarks, artwork, and so much more! There were also services to choose from such as sharpening teachers' pencils, painting students' nails, and one from our class for washing windows. Overall, our students earned $613.05 to go toward the purchase of our gym's rock climbing wall. They loved it and I felt they learned so much from it. They were using persuasion to try to get consumers coming up to them to purchase their good/service. One group, knowing they needed to sell their high supply before time ran out, started running a buy one get one free promotion. :) They even impressed me by quickly figuring out how much change to give back to one of their customers. I could go on and on, but let me just say I am so very proud of them and what they learned and accomplished. I can't wait until next year's market!

Snow + Valentine's Party = An Exciting Friday!!

Friday was a day full of fun. First, we launched our Goods and Services PBL unit with local business people coming to speak to our students about what they provide to our community. We heard from Mr. Coates from Zaxby's, Mr. Ryan from Bi-Lo, Miss Cooley from Strawberry Hill, Mr. Allen from Allen Real Estate, and Mrs. Loftis from Marian Loftis Photography. We are so grateful they came to share information with our students to prepare them for this fun, meaningful unit.
During the presentations, it began to snow, so we hurried outside to catch some on our tongues. It was brief, but beautiful snow!
Finally we had our ice cream sundae party at the end of the day. Yum! Sugar and snow makes for a chaotic but memorable day at OES!

Pancakes with the Principals

Our class read the most number of steps in 2nd grade during Christmas break (over 7000!) so our reward was getting to eat pancakes with our wonderful principals, Dr. Patterson and Mrs. Skinner. They were delicious and the kids loved it! Great job friends! I'm very proud of you and hope you continue your love of reading!
