Woohoo for Week Two!

Woohoo! We made it through week 2! :) It was a busy week....but that's probably going to be the story every week this year! We are still working on learning routines and procedures, and that will continue for a while. Overall, the students are doing well and have officially taken their first tests of 2nd grade.
I forgot to include pictures last week from our annual Back to School Bash. I'm glad I was able to see quite a few of you there. I'm just sad I didn't get a picture of everyone. But I hope you all had a blast! I know Linley enjoyed it. She got to see Anna and Elsa. It definitely did not feel like Arendelle outside though! :) Here are just a few of the sweet faces I saw. Photo credits to Mrs. McAbee on a few of these since I had to leave and get Vivi out of that heat!

I sent home some information Friday about our upcoming field trip to Hatcher Gardens scheduled for September 14. As it states, we can only allow 3 chaperones per class. If I have more than 3 volunteers, I'll draw names to be fair. I will contact the 3 parents that volunteer. There are 2 more field trips planned this year, so if you can not attend this one, we'd love to have you help on one of the next 2! Please let me know ASAP if you would like to chaperone so we can see if you have an updated SLED check on file with the district. If not, we'll need to get that done next week so it will be completed in time. The cost is $26. Visit the following link to read more about where we are going.
Be sure to read the weekly newsletter to see what all is going on in our classroom this week. We start several new things this week: our first spelling list/test and new units in SS and Math. Also, school pictures will be made Sept. 3, so dress in your best! Don't forget there will be no school next Monday, Sept.7 due to the Labor Day holiday. I hope you have a nice, long weekend with your families!  Have a fabulous week!

First Week=Success!

Wow! What a fabulous, long, but FUN week! I have 21 of the sweetest students at OES. I've enjoyed getting to know them a little better. I've learned the girls are caring, love to dance, and several of them want to be teachers when they grow up. ❤️ I've also learned the boys love Skylander (I have 2 girls so they had to explain that because I had NO idea), baseball, animals, and are full of energy that I wish I had. 😄
I'm glad I got to see several of you at the Back to School Bash on Thursday. It was HOT, but it looked like everyone was having a good time!
Be sure to look over the newsletter I send home on Mondays to see what we will be working on. Daily homework is listed on the back.  Last week, I had a number of students forget at least 1 assignment so please refer to the homework sheet to make sure all is completed. The 100BC goal will stay 11 steps this week, so now is a good time to get ahead.
If you haven't done so already, don't forget to sign up for Class Dojo behavior reports and for our class Remind. I will send reminders using it throughout the year.
I'm looking forward to week 2, which holds our first tests of the year. If you have any questions please feel free to call or email me. Have a terrific week!

Introducing...ME! :)

WELCOME TO SECOND GRADE!
I'm so excited about the 2015-2016 school year! My name is Mrs. Wise and I wanted to let you know a little bit about me before we start back to school.
I grew up in Boiling Springs, so I'm proud and blessed to still live and work here. I received my Bachelor's degree from USC Upstate in 2004 and my Master's degree from Southern Wesleyan University in 2006. This will be my twelfth year of teaching. Ten of those years were spent teaching 3rd grade and this will be my second year in 2nd grade. All twelve years have been at Oakland!
I am married to my high school sweetheart, Rusty. We have been married for 11 years. We have 2 gorgeous little girls. Linley is our oldest, and she'll be 5 in September. She is the smartest, sassiest, funniest, and most beautiful big sister ever! You never know what will come out of her mouth and she loves to make us laugh. Because of her late birthday, she won't be at OES this year. But she'll be here next year in kindergarten which is hard to believe! Our youngest daughter, Vivienne (aka Vivi) was born June 5, filling our hearts and making our family complete. She is the sweetest baby and has just recently started sleeping all night. Woohoo! I love my sleep!:) We love talking to Vivi so she'll give us one of her precious smiles.

Having a newborn this summer, we didn't go on vacation. But we love to travel. We've been to Hawaii, Aruba, St. Lucia, NYC, and lots of other fun destinations. There are so many other places I want to visit one day too! Other than traveling, here are some other things I love:
God, spending time with family and friends, reading books on my Kindle, Disney World, shopping (for my girls more than for me), sushi, Moe's, Target, the color aqua/turquoise, almond M&Ms, sweet tea, and the USC Gamecocks!
I can't wait to meet you and learn more about you. Enjoy these last few days of summer and I'll see you soon with lots of smiles and hugs!
